the day i got sick

i woke up last sunday with a bit of a sore throat. i chalked it up to the furnace running a lot and probably not drinking enough water. i didn’t sleep well that night and had body aches, chills, sweats, and woke up monday feeling like someone hit my face with a brick.

i was in bed for nearly the entire next 48 hours. i forced myself up for about an hour on monday night and tried to help rodney make chicken noodle soup (he didn’t need any help) and ate enough to make me exhausted. on tuesday, i felt a little better, but still spent way longer in bed than i ever would like. merle was right next to me the entire time, either in bed or on the couch. i made sure to let her know she was a great nurse’s assistant (rodney was in charge of food and medicine, and he was an excellent nurse).

sleeps like a hooman

i did remain upright for about three hours tuesday evening and we made a roasted beet and arugula salad with seared scallops.

spiralized beets!

spiralizing the beets meant they took 15 minutes to roast instead of over an hour for a whole beet. it was delicious and i wish i’d had enough room in my stomach to finish mine.

my back, sickness, and the negative double-digit temperatures mean we haven’t had a proper dog walk in over two weeks… and i can tell jones is getting restless. but, he has started letting merle cuddle up.

awe

speaking of merle (as if i don’t do enough of that already), she did *not* like the cold. during the coldest morning, she made it halfway up the steps coming back inside and stopped, lifted both front paws to her chest, and looked at me with a very sad expression.

then we snuggled.

they’ll both be ecstatic when i finish my coffee tomorrow morning and put on my boots for a nice, long walk.
